UVa is not politically active like Berkeley, Chapel Hill, or Santa Cruz.  Protests are a pretty rare thing here.  So when some students decided to protest the low pay of some university employees by camping out on the lawn of the administration there was some befuddlement. For the first four nights, before the classes here start I am staying in a hostel in San Telmo called Hostel Telmotango.  It is in a newly refurbished 130 year old building in the older part of town. The latest I joined in January.  They're all in UVa Med.  I've never had any interest in becoming a doctor nor have any of my friends, so the med school subculture is completely foreign to me.
